While online today I came across this article. Today, a transgender woman took her seat in Poland's parliament. Poland, a country in which there is profound Roman Catholic influence, newly elected Anna Grodzka to Parliament where she was welcomed by the other members. It showed how the country was taking a step forward and becoming more accepting of other people, regardless of their sex and sexual orientation. After reading this article I decided to do some research on the United States congress and saw that there were no transgender or even bi members of the US House of Representatives, I couldn't find anything about transgendered or transsexual people in the US Senate.
I began wondering why a country as tolerant as the United States does not have any transgender people in our congress. Does any one know of any transgender people in the US Congress? We're supposed to be a tolerant country, if a country with such roots in religion can accept transgender people into their Parliament why haven't we?
